29th Southeast Asian Games will take place between 19th and 30th of August in Kuala Lumpur. The Games will coincide with the celebration of Malaysia’s 60th Independence Day. The main venue is Bukit Jalil National Stadium. It is a multisport event involving participants from 11 countries of Southeast Asia. The Games under regulation of the Southeast Asian Games Federation with supervision of International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Council of Asia. This year there will be 408 events in 38 types of sport, including 2 winter sports ice hockey and figure skating.
Baram Regatta is held since 1899 in conjunction with the Savage Peace Conference that led to peace and unity among the multi-ethnic communities of Baram. It was a great success in the ending of the conflict. After the end of regatta communities got together to celebrate the great event. The festival attracts not only people from this region but also other areas of Sarawak as well as foreigners. Participants of the regatta will be more than 100 teams attracting over 3000 people. Malaysia Independence Day is the day when Federation of Malaysia gained its independence from British colonisation, forming that we know of today as Malaysia. It is the day to commemorate and celebrate the freedom and independence. During whole month of August, most Malaysians will express their patriotism and love towards country by raising the Malaysian flag on their vehicles, balcony and along the streets. There will be parade on the Merdeka Square with a speeches of leaders of the government and fireworks.
