The Singapore Art Festival is an annual art festival which has been inaugurated in 1977 to celebrate local arts and has played a very important role in the development of the artistic and cultural life of Singapore. The festival incorporates theatre acts, dance, music and visual arts. Besides local participants approximately 70% of the events are put up by international artists. In 2014 the Singapore Festival of Arts got new name Singapore International Festival of Arts.
Hungry Ghost Festival is a traditional Chinese Festival which is held to appease the spirits of deceased relatives who wonder freely on earth during the seventh lunar month. According to Chinese tradition people must perform the rituals to transmute and absolve the sufferings of the deceased that walked to earth. They offer ritualistic food, burn incense and joss paper. Chinese families will also cook elaborate meals and leave empty seats at their tables for deceased members of their family. Also food is often left out for the hungry ghosts on the streets. There will be also cultural events and musical performances.
