Plan your event tripKuala Lumpur is a regular stop for global tours. TM Stadium Nasional in Bukit Jalil, formerly Bukit Jalil National Stadium, seats more than 85,000 people, and Coldplay, Ed Sheeran and Blackpink have all played there. Next door, Unifi Arena takes arena shows and K-pop, while Zepp Kuala Lumpur and Mega Star Arena bring mid-size concerts into Bukit Bintang.
Beyond the stadiums, the year runs on sport and festivals: MotoGP at Sepang International Circuit, held since 1999 and usually late October to early November; the Rainforest World Music Festival near Kuching, usually late June; George Town Festival in Penang; and Thaipusam, Chinese New Year and Deepavali across the country.

The largest international tours play TM Stadium Nasional in Bukit Jalil. Seats go fast, so we plan the ticket, hotel and transfers as one trip.

Unifi Arena, Bukit Jalil
A BWF Super 1000 tournament, one of the biggest on the world badminton tour, with the leading players in Kuala Lumpur.
Batu Caves, near Kuala Lumpur
A Hindu festival: a chariot procession through the night to Batu Caves, then devotees climb the 272 steps. Cover shoulders and knees.
Nationwide, including KL and Penang
Lion dances, fireworks and temples hung with red lanterns, such as Thean Hou in Kuala Lumpur. Some shops close for the first days.
Sarawak Cultural Village, near Kuching
World music in the rainforest since 1998: evening concerts and daytime workshops, usually over three days. We add flights from KL and a hotel.
George Town, Penang
Arts, theatre, music and light shows across the UNESCO-listed old town, held since 2010. Many events are free; the length varies by year.
Nationwide; the parade venue changes
Malaysia marks independence, declared on 31 August 1957, with a national parade and flags. The parade venue is not fixed, so check each year.

A public holiday marking the formation of Malaysia in 1963. The official celebration moves between states from year to year.

The festival of lights: oil lamps and kolam floor art in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur’s Little India, and in Penang’s Little India.
Sepang International Circuit
Practice, qualifying and racing over three days next to KLIA. The 2025 weekend drew more than 190,000 spectators, so book early.
KLCC Park, Kuala Lumpur
Fireworks over the Petronas Twin Towers at midnight. Crowds are heavy, so we suggest a hotel within walking distance of KLCC.
Festival dates move each year. Large concerts by foreign acts are generally not scheduled around national days and Islamic public holidays.
Every package starts from the event and works outward: the seat first, then a hotel that makes the night easy, then the transfers. Book all four parts or only the ones you need.

A few practical points that make a show night easier. Rules vary by event, so always check the organiser’s own guidance too.
Take the LRT Sri Petaling Line to Bukit Jalil station, about 8 to 10 minutes’ walk from the stadium. Rail hours are usually extended for major events; roads are slow after a show.
Big shows often print the holder’s name and passport number on the ticket and check them at entry. Tickets are usually non-transferable, and resale is often banned.
Expect bag and body checks. Power banks, umbrellas, alcohol, bottled water, lighters and vapes are often banned. Check the organiser’s list before you go.
It is hot and humid all year, with frequent afternoon and evening storms from April to May and October to November. Bring a poncho, not an umbrella, and drink plenty of water.
Official concert dress rules apply to performers, not audiences, but modest dress is sensible. Dewan Filharmonik Petronas asks for smart casual: no shorts, singlets or flip-flops.
Large foreign-act concerts are generally not held around Merdeka Day, Malaysia Day or Islamic public holidays. Hari Raya moves about 11 days earlier each year.
