Terengganu
Northeast coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Kuala Terengganu, the capital, is the boat-departure hub for Redang. The state retains the strongest traditional Malay character on the peninsula, visible in food, dress, and architecture.
Destination Overview
Kuala Terengganu sits at the mouth of the Terengganu River. Two anchor sights: the Crystal Mosque on Wan Man Island, built in steel-and-glass and lit at night, and the adjacent Islamic Heritage Park with scale models of major mosques. The Chinatown stretch on Kampung Cina runs along the river with traditional shophouses and small craft workshops.
Most visitors transit through Kuala Terengganu en route to Redang or Perhentian. The Merang Jetty is 40 minutes by road north of the city. Pulau Kapas, off the coast at Marang, is a quieter island option than Redang or Perhentian, fewer resorts, easier last-minute booking.
Terengganu pairs well as a 1–2 night cultural pause inside an east-coast island itinerary, or as a slower 3-night programme on its own for clients seeking traditional Malay heritage.
